The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is releasing information regarding the death of an inmate being held at the Lawrence County Jail.

A 63 year old female died Monday afternoon at an area hospital after deputies discovered the female unconscious in her cell. 

The Lawrence County Jail staff noticed the the female who was in her cell alone was in an awkward sitting position.  Control notified 911 and jail staff of the situation.

Deputies and staff immediately responded to the cell block area where they located the inmate unconscious.  Life saving measures were implemented and EMS was dispatched.  The inmate was transported to an area hospital were she later succumbed to her injuries.

No foul play is suspected but the Lawrence County Coroner will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
