Sheriff's Office Investigating Possible Homicide

08/12/2012

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into a possible homicide that may have occurred Saturday evening August 11, 2012.

The Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a call in rural Lawrence County North East of Pierce City for a report of possible shots fired and someone injured.  When Deputies arrived on scene, no one was at the residence.  It was obvious that a group of people had been at the residence prior to the Deputies arrival due to a large amount of food and beverages that were located near the residence.

Deputies also located what the believed to be a large amount of blood at the scene.  Detectives were called out to process a potential crime scene but no contact was made with anyone.  After locating possible family members an endangered missing persons alert was issued.

On Sunday August 12, 2012 at approximately 9 am, the Sheriff's Office received a call of a possible body found along a roadway in a wooded area.  Deputies responded to that call and located a body a few miles from the original call from the day before.

At this time, no names are being released pending notification of family.  The Sheriff's Office does believe the shots fired call and the discovery of the body are related and at this time are treating the discovery of the body as a homicide.

Autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.

Further details will be released as they become available.
