Sheriff's Office seizes 79 marijuana plants

On 08/27/2010 a Lawrence County Deputies located and seized 79 marijuana plants from a residence in rural Verona in Lawrence County.

The deputy was on regular duty and was attempting to serve a civil process paper to an individual at the rural address.  When the deputy pulled into the drive he noticed several large plants in the front yard of the residence which were growing in several different pots.

The deputy identified the plants as what he believed to be marijuana and immediately called for assistance.  After other deputies arrived, they attempted to make contact at the residence.  No contact was made but shortly there after, a subject who was believed to be residing at the residence came from a wooded area near the residence and made contact with the deputies.

Deputies then conducted an investigation and seized the plants and took the subject into custody and transported him to the Lawrence County Jail where he is awaiting formal charges.

The 79 plants ranged in size from 2 foot to 6 foot tall and it is believed a street value of the drug to be between $7,000 and $8,000.
