Lawrence County Sherifff's Office St. Patrick's Day Holiday 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' Enforcement Campaign a Success

03/18/2014

Declaring Lawrence County's participation in the national St. Patrick's Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" drunk driving crackdown a major success, Sheriff Brad DeLay reported that four (4) drunk driving arrests, two (2) felony arrests and 7 citations were made during the enforcement period, which ran from March 14-17, 2014.  Approximately 60 warnings for various other violations were also issued.

"I am proud of our deputies for their hard work and dedication to making our region's roadways safer," said Sheriff DeLay.

"Drunk driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals," Sheriff DeLay said.  "Each year, drunk driving costs the lives of thousands on America's highways.  "In 2013, 218 were killed and 666 seriously injured on Missouri's highways in accidents that involved at least one substance-impaired driver."

During the 2013 St. Patrick's holiday in Missouri, 412 DWI arrests were made statewide.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the county in this year's St. Patrick's holiday "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
