Declaring the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office's participation in the nation's annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" drunk driving crackdown a major success, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office reported that more than 6 drunk driving arrests, 4 felony arrests, 2 drug arrests, and 4 fugitives were apprehended, 30 citations were made and over 100 warnings for various other hazardous moving violations were issued during the enforcement period, which ran from August 16th to September 2, 2013.

I am proud of our Deputies for their hard work and dedication to making our region's roadways safer," said Sheriff Brad DeLay

"Drunk driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals," said Sheriff DeLay.  "Each year, drunk driving costs the lives of thousands on America's highways.  In 2012, 230 people died in Missouri crashes involving impaired drivers.  "That worked out to about approximately one impaired driving fatality every 1 1/2 days."

During the 2012 Labor Day weekend in Missouri, three people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving impaired drivers or motorcycle riders.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
