Lawrence County Deputies received an early Christmas present this week in the form of new bullet resistant vests. 25 Deputies were issued the newest technology in bullet resistant vests. The vests were purchased in part by a grant from the Department of Justice. The D.O.J. grant matches 50 percent of the total costs of the vests and the remaining cost will be covered by funds from the Sheriff's Special Fund.
Many of the current deputies did not have vests and those that did were more than five years old. This grant will allow all deputies who wish to wear the protective item to now have one.
