Sheriff's Office investigate shooting

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting on Monday March 14, 2011 at approximately 9:30 p.m. 

The incident occurred north of Mt. Vernon on Missouri highway 39.  The 911 call came in at approximately 9:30 p.m. stating that someone had been shot while in their residence.  It is believed that several shots were fired from the roadway at a residence that was occupied.  Three people were in the residence at the time.  Two were in a back bedroom sleeping and a third was in the living room area sitting in a chair.

The male subject in the chair was struck by a bullet in the lower right back area.  The victim was transported to a Springfield hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be released later today.

At this time no witnesses to the event have been located and the investigation is continuing.
