Sheriff's Office receives grant for marijuana eradication

07/16/2010

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office has received a grant from the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Missouri Sheriff's Association in the amount of $2000.00 for the eradication and suppression of marijuana.

This was a competitive grant for all Sheriff's Offices in the state of Missouri that can be used in the effort to fight against the production and distribution of marijuana.  The funds awarded will be used to pay officers overtime to go above their normal duties during the marijuana growing season to locate both indoor and outdoor growing operations.

Each year the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office works with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other agencies in joint efforts to stop the spread of the drug.  This money will be used to continue that effort.
