Lawrence County Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers

07/06/2010

Missouri roads are safer, thanks to law enforcement cracking down on impaired drivers and working to make sure motorists think twice about traffic safety over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office participated in the You Drink & Drive.  You Lose. crackdown conducted July 2-5.  During the enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 32 summons and warnings including one DWI arrest, one minor in possession of alcohol, 15 speeding and 15 other misc. traffic violations.

"When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we're all safer," stated Sheriff DeLay.  "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to drive sober."

Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri.  In 2008, 262 people were killed, 1,113 seriously injured and 3,398 received minor injuries in crashes involving an impaired driver.
