On the evening of January 26, 2010 a Lawrence County Deputy was patrolling the area of a rural Lawrence County cemetery when he noticed four subjects under a pavilion at a cemetery in N.W. Lawrence County.  The deputy exited his vehicle and announced his presence.  The subjects then took of running from the deputy.  The deputy began a foot pursuit and shortly there after heard a single gun shot.

The deputy continued to pursue the subjects for several more yards and heard a second gun shot.  After hearing the second shot the deputy went back to the area of the patrol car to wait for other officers.

It is unknown if the shot was directed toward the deputy or if they could have been accidental.  The deputy received no injuries as a result of the gun shots but suffered minor injuries as a result of the foot pursuit and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

After the initial request for assistance was made several officers from the Lawrence County, Jasper County and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the area.  A perimeter was set up and K-9 units were called in to attempt to track the suspects.  After several hours of searching the area the suspects were not located.

Leads will continue to be followed up on for some time in an attempt to ID the suspects in this case.
